Common questions asked of the FBI AIA

1. Who is eligible for membership in the FBI AIA?
Paid membership is open exclusively to former FBI Intelligence Analysts. If you are an onboard IA or SOS, you can join our mailing list by visiting: https://www.fbiaia.org/#mailing-list. You can also follow us on LinkedIn and Instagram.

2. What types of events do you host?
We host professional development workshops, office hours, panel discussions, and networking events designed to support career advancement and skill-building.

3. Are you planning to open membership to on-board IAs and SOSs?
We are actively exploring membership options for onboard IAs and SOSs. In the meantime, onboard IAs and SOSs are encouraged to join our mailing list to stay informed about updates.

4. What is your governance model?

Our leadership is structured into two key groups: a Board of Directors and a team of officers. The Board of Directors provides oversight and governance, while our officers manage the day-to-day operations of the organization.

5. What happened to the FBI IAA?
The FBI Intelligence Analyst Association (FBI IAA) was established for onboard IAs, but it stopped collecting dues in February 2020 and is now in the process of dissolving.

Are You an Onboard Intelligence Professional in the FBI?

We greatly appreciate the interest from onboard FBI Intelligence Analysts (IAs), Staff Operations Specialists, and other intelligence professionals in joining the FBI Association of Intelligence Analysts (FBI AIA). Our organization was founded to connect and support former FBI IAs who have transitioned to roles in the private sector, non-profits, academia, and beyond.

Of note, the FBI Intelligence Analyst Association (FBI IAA), originally established for onboard FBI IAs, is currently in the process of dissolving (and stopped collecting dues in February 2020).

In contrast, the FBI Association of Intelligence Analysts (FBI AIA) was formed by former FBI IAs in 2021 and presently offers membership exclusively to former analysts. However, when we established our bylaws, we intentionally left the door open to potentially include onboard employees in the future. Given the significant interest we’ve received, we are actively considering how to expand eligibility while ensuring we can manage the administrative and operational aspects effectively.

As a small organization with limited resources, we want to be methodical in this process to ensure we can provide value to all members—past, present, and future. We appreciate your patience as we work through these considerations.

If you are an onboard intelligence professional and would like to stay informed about our decision, please sign up for our mailing list: https://www.fbiaia.org/#mailing-list

You can also follow us on LinkedIn and Instagram.

We welcome your interest and look forward to finding ways to engage with and support the FBI IA community.

Other FAQs

Has this organization collected association dues?

Yes, but only since 2021 (when we were established), and only via our fbiaia.org website. The FBI Intelligence Analyst Association (FBI IAA) - not the AIA - was originally established for onboard FBI IAs and is currently in the process of dissolving (and stopped collecting dues in February 2020).
